Dr Alan Borg CBE on The Knights of Malta – from Jerusalem to Clerkenwell

August 5 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

| £20

Dr Borg was Director General of the Imperial War Museum 1982-95 and Director of the V&A 1995-2001. He is now Archivist and Librarian to the Venerable Order of St John, and in this lecture will explore the roots of the Order of the Knights of Malta  – from their inception in the 11th century when, known then as ‘Knights Hospitaller’, they established a hospital in Jerusalem to care for pilgrims of any religious faith or race – through to the present day when the various Orders are active in 120 countries caring for people in need through its medical, social and humanitarian works. Day-to-day, its broad spectrum of social projects provides a constant support for forgotten or excluded members of society. In Britain the Venerable Order runs St John’s Ambulance, and supports the world-famous Eye Hospital in Jerusalem.
