Groups & Guided Tours
Organised groups are welcome at the Hall, by prior arrangement, throughout the year – except on the 30 afternoons when the Hall is open to the general public. We only accept one group per morning, afternoon or evening; so yours will be the only group visiting the Hall giving your friends and colleagues to take their time a view the Hall at a leisurely place and absorb all that they are told.
Visitors will hear about over 700 years of history, political and religious fighting and over and above all that the battle to save a much loved family home and the work that has gone in to that over the past 30 years.
Tours last approximately 1½ hours and this is followed by time for your members to wander around at their leisure, and we generally recommend that you allow two hours in all for your visit. Should your members wish to complete the Moat Walk, we would recommend that they bring sensible shoes or Wellington boots as the walk backs on to farmland.
It is possible to arrange for a specialised tour if your group has a particular interest (eg gardening, architecture, family history, Catholic history) as our Guides have a wealth of knowledge and can tailor a tour to suit most interests.
A visit to Markenfield can be easily combined with a visit to one of Ripon’s other attractions and a list of these can be found on our Also in the Area page.
Let them eat cake!
Meals are not available at the Hall, but we can offer tea & cake for groups at a cost of £16 per person (including the tour).
The Hall can take “a coach full” of visitors, but groups of 30 or over will generally be divided in to two smaller groups and be shown around by two Guides.
The cost of a tour at Markenfield Hall is £12 per person for groups of 10 people and over (no concessions and no HHA membership discount) and a fixed fee of £120 is charged per tour for groups of 12 people or less.
For Tours with cake the cost is £16 per person (no concessions and no free HHA) for groups of 10 and over, and a fixed fee of £160 for groups of less than 10.
We can accept anything up a 52 seater coach – anything larger than that will get in, but currently will not get back out again. We will send you notes to pass on to your coach company – please (please!) pass these on when you make your booking, rather than waiting to hand them to your driver on the day.
